Gala Day - Saturday 25 June 2016 1pm
A huge thank you to everyone who came along and supported the Gala on Saturday. We hope you enjoyed it, despite the rain. Thank you for turning out in your waterproofs and wellies, wearing smiles and having fun. Thank you to our performers for being flexible and coping with whatever the weather decided to throw at us and the dogs for staying calm!
A special thank you to our all volunteers, whether you helped set up at 6am, made sandwiches at breakfast time, ran a stall through the afternoon or help pack up in the mud until 9.30pm, or did any of the hundreds of other jobs, we really appreciate and value your support, the gala simply couldn't happen without out you.
Gala is a huge community effort, raising money for our local charitable causes, so thank you to you all for your support.
The aim of Oughtibridge Gala Events is to raise money for local charitable causes by running community events which promote the village spirit through a great day out for Oughtibridge and the surrounding area.
This year we are having our very first Oughtibridge Gala on the beach! For the first time ever we have brought the beach to Oughtibridge, we hope that you will come along and have a fabulous day sitting on the sand, listening to some amazing local musician, watching the wonderful entertainment and indulging in some gorgous food.
Around the park we will have a whole host of things to entertain you. We will have our special "Oughtibridge" Buzz Wire Game and a new test your strength machine. You will also be able to try your hand at 3 Card Bingo and take your photo in our beach scene photograph board. Oughtibridge Canoe Club will be here again to let you have a paddle in the river ( Make sure you book early to ensure you have a go). The ladder Challenge also proved very poular last year, so that is will be here again, as well as the usual inflatable attractions.
As always, we have a fantastic programe of events to entertain you throughout the afternoon. We have a wide variety of talented local musicians apperinging on Gala Day: Oughtibridge Brass Band, Bailey Street, Lost Control, Wharncliffe Side School Orchestra and Choir and Oughtibridge Training Band. We also have the Children’s entertainer Barney Baloney who will be performing on stage, as well as walking around and showing you some of his magic skills. Phoenix Gymnastics are also performing for us, so make sure you don’t miss their display in the main arena.
The Oughtibridge Dog Show is also making a welcome return to the gala. The first show last year was extremely popular with a huge number of dogs entering. Make sure you go over and visit the dog show arena, or see the ‘Best of Show’ at the end of the day, to see the wonderful dogs that live in our village!
Over the last five years Oughtibridge Gala has donated approximatly £17,500 to local causes and charities, raising money through Sports night, Gala Day and Party in the Park.
